Brandon Wheat Kings Victorious In Dauphin Tuesday

The Brandon Wheat Kings are fighting back. After falling behind two games to zero to begin their first round Western Hockey League playoff matchup with the Medicine Hat Tigers this weekend, the Wheaties responded nicely at ‘home’ with a 5-3 victory Tuesday evening from Credit Union Place in Dauphin.

Dauphin is once again hosting the Wheat Kings as the Brandon Fair is occupying Keystone Centre at Westman Place in Brandon for the remainder of the week.

The Wheat Kings erupted for three goals in the third period, in a ‘must-win’ kind of game Tuesday. After the first period ended 1-1, and the second period ended 2-2, Brandon upped the pace in the final frame, ultimately prevailing by two goals, 5-3.

Ty Lewis picked up two markers, while Linden McCorrister grabbed two assists. The Wheat Kings also got goals from Connor Gutenberg, Evan Weinger and Ben McCartney in the victory.

As has been the case for the entirety of this first round series, Medicine Hat’s captain Mark Rassell continued to dominate his Manitoban opponents, putting together yet another multi-point effort. With a goal and an assist Tuesday, Rassell now has nine points in three playoff games so far.

Dylan Myskiw picked up the victory for Brandon, who was forced to play without netminder Logan Thompson who was injured on Saturday in Medicine Hat. The Tigers outshot the Wheaties once again, but Myskiw made the necessary saves to prevail in victory for Brandon.

Game four of the best-of-seven series goes Wednesday night in Dauphin. Tickets are still available, and can be purchased at the box office in Credit Union Place.
