After beating out the Grand Rapids Griffins in game five of the opening series of the postseason, the Moose will be taking on the Rockford Icehogs in a best-of-seven second round matchup, beginning Friday.
Manitoba (42-26-8) finished above Rockford (40-28-8) through the 76 game regular season, and will do battle with the team that ended the year just four points behind them.
The Moose and Icehogs played faced off against one another four times in the 2017-18 season, with mixed results. On November 28th, Manitoba rolled into Rockford and destroyed the Icehogs 8-1. They followed that up with a 4-3 overtime victory on February 2nd – also in Illinois.
The Icehogs seemed to turn things around, however, as on a two-game road trip to Winnipeg, Rockford won the final two contests of the season between the two teams, 4-2 and 4-3 in late March. With both teams collecting all of their respective points on the road, home ice advantage may not come into play after all.
As the team with the higher number of points, the Moose do indeed have home ice advantage in the second round. Operating in a 2-3-2 format, Manitoba’s Bell MTS Place will serve as the venue for games one and two, before the series shifts to BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford for games three, four and potentially five. Games six and seven – if required – will be played back in Winnipeg.
Tickets for games one, two, six and seven are available online now at moosehockey.ca/tickets, with prices starting as low at $23. Or be entered into a draw to win tickets to the AHL’s second round through Game On Magazine!
