Geekie just recently completed his 19-year-old season in the Western Hockey League with the Tri-City Americans. And it wasn’t just any regular season for the highly offensive forward.
The 2017 third round selection put up 30 goals and 84 points in 68 regular season games for the Americans, but it was in the postseason in which Geekie really shone.
In 14 playoff games, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound centerman put up an incredible 17 goals and 27 points for Tri-City, setting a handful of franchise records in the process.
“Morgan is a big, skilled center who has shown progress throughout his junior career with Tri-City,” said Hurricanes President and General Manager Don Waddell. “He is ready to start his professional career and we look forward to continuing to track his development.”
The three-year deal will pay Geekie $650K in 2018-19, and $700K in 2019-20 and 2020-21 if he makes the Hurricanes. In the American Hockey League, the Manitoban will make $70K – a slight step up from the WHL.
