Winnipeg Jets Assign Sami Niku And Eric Comrie To the AHL

The Winnipeg Jets have assigned defenceman Sami Niku and goaltender Eric Comrie to the Manitoba Moose. Following a season in which the Jets relied on four different goaltenders to pick up victories due to injuries, Comrie is expected to be with the Moose for the remainder of the season and playoffs.

Comrie went 1-2-0 in three games with the Jets in 2017-18, putting together a .872 save percentage and a 3.99 goals against average. The 22-year-old should experience much greater success in the American Hockey League playoffs, with running mate Michael Hutchinson.

Niku, 21, played in one game for the Jets and produced a goal on his first shot – the first goal of his NHL career. Niku will be a much needed force on the back-end for a Manitoba squad that has lost five of its last six games. Niku is tied for the AHL lead in defensive point scoring with 15 goals and 52 points.

The Winnipeg Jets host the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday evening from Bell MTS Place in their final contest of the season, while the Moose wrap up their season on April 15th.
