Both players come from southern Manitoba and spent their last handful of seasons within the Pembina Valley Hawks’ AAA organization.
Goertzen – a 2000-born defenceman from Homewood, MB. – collected two goals and 23 points last season. McCarthy – a 2001-born forward from Morris, MB. – put up 14 goals and 36 points in 47 games for Pembina Valley in 2017-18. After being drafted by the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels and the MJHL’s Dauphin Kings, McCarthy found himself dealt to Winkler and recently joined the Flyers for their playoff run this past season.
Both players are expected to attend the Flyers’ training camp this fall. The main camp officially opens on August 29th.
