On Thursday evening the Capitals made it clear that Bowey is a part of the long-term plan in Washington, signing the 23-year-old to a two-year, one-way deal, giving him a raise from the $700K he earned in 2017-18.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defender made his NHL debut for the Capitals last season, dressing in 51 games and recording 12 assists in the process. Bowey also played nine games for the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears, where he amassed two goals and eight points.
Bowey, who didn’t dress in the postseason for Washington, will still get to see his name on the Stanley Cup, as he met the league’s requirement of a minimum of 41 regular season games played in the championship season. Varsity View Sportsplex will host Bowey and the Stanley Cup on Saturday, July 28th for a community viewing open to the public.
