Manitoban Joel Edmundson Agrees to Deal With St. Louis

The St. Louis Blues have avoided arbitration with Brandon, MB. product Joel Edmundson. In signing a one-year, $3 million contract, the three-year NHL defenceman will see a significant raise from the $1.1 million he made in his previous deal.

Edmundson put together seven goals and 17 points for St. Louis in 2017-18, new career highs in both regards. He also recorded a career low 57 penalty minutes while dressing in 69 games for the Blues. The Brandon native has 11 career NHL goals and 41 points to his name. 

Although St. Louis did not qualify for the postseason in 2018, Edmundson did put up impressive numbers for the Blues in the 2017 playoffs, scoring three goals and six points in just 11 postseason games. 

After playing his junior hockey with the Western Hockey Leagues’ Moose Jaw Warriors and Kamloops Blazers, Edmundson played two season in the American Hockey League for the Chicago Wolves, where he honed his craft as a shut down defenceman. The work has certainly paid off, as the 6-foot-4, 215-pound blueliner has found regular top four work in the NHL’s Central Division.
