Of the 29 players invited to the preliminary roster, 23 are Western Hockey League prospects, while eight come from The Rink Hockey Academy. Goaltender Tyler Brennan, defencemen Carson Lambos, Hudson Thornton and Tayem Gislason, and forwards Aiden Litke, Eric Alarie, Owen Weihs and Skyler Bruce, make up the crew from Shaftesbury High School heading to camp.
15 forwards, seven defencemen and one goaltender make up the 23 players selected from the WHL, while the other six players come from various AAA programs across the province. The 2019 Canada Winter Games runs from February 14th to March 3rd, 2019.
Although only occurring once every four years, Team Manitoba has seen the podium in two of the last three runnings of the Canada Winter Games, finishing second in 2007 and third in 2015. The Manitobans came in fifth in 2011. Cody Glass (Vegas Golden Knights), Jett Woo (Vancouver Canucks) and Brett Davis (Dallas Stars) led the way for Team Manitoba in 2015.
