The Winnipeg Blues are hoping to go the distance in 2018-19, in hopes of putting their 31-22-7 sixth-place finish from last season to shame. If the off-season has been any indication, that task has become much easier with a key addition to the Blues’ 2018-19 coaching staff.

Late Monday night the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Blues announced that former NHL forward Josh Green will serve behind Winnipeg’s bench for the upcoming hockey season as an assistant coach to Billy Keane.

Green, 40, has played in 20 professional hockey seasons, including 11 in the NHL, six overseas and two seasons with the hometown Manitoba Moose. In 341 career NHL games with the Kings, Islanders, Oilers, Rangers, Capitals, Flames, Canucks and Ducks, Green produced 36 goals, 76 points and 206 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound power forward most recently played in Finland’s SM-liiga for Tappara Tampere and Kookoo Kouvola from 2013-17, collecting 60 goals and 115 points in the process. He will be a welcomed veteran addition to the Blues’ staff for the 2018-19 MJHL season.
