The good news stories continue to roll out as the MJHL’s Winkler Flyers recently announced that RHA Nationals’ Midget Prep student athlete Josh Kagan has signed a contract for the 2018-19 hockey season.
Kagan, 17, put together an exciting 2017-18, collecting 12 goals and 38 points in 35 games, to go along with 78 penalty minutes on the year. His stats were highlighted by four power play goals, while three of his markers served as game-winners. The Winnipeg, MB. native also scored three times and put up four assists in just five postseason games for the Nationals.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound forward played his first year of midget hockey with the Winnipeg Monarchs, where he collected 26 goals, 44 points and 36 penalty minutes in 35 games. Kagan then moved on to play one season with the U-16 Omaha Lancers of the North American Prospects Hockey League, before committing to play with RHA.
Kagan will look to crack Winkler’s squad this fall and help the Flyers improve on their 35-25-0 fifth-place finish from 2017-18. Winkler was swept in the second round of the MJHL playoffs by the Virden Oil Capitals after beating OCN in six games of the opening round.
