Hockey Canada is midway through hosting its annual National Women’s Development Team and Under-18 Team selection camps. Participating in the festivities – along with 75 others – were nine Manitoban women, five with the Development Team, and four with the U-18 squad.

The Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary, AB. is the site of the camps running from August 3rd to 11th. 43 young women are participating in the Under-18 selection camp, while 41 others are represented in the National Women’s Development Team camp, operating independently.

Practices, off-ice training, inter-squad games, fitness testing, nutrition and in-class sessions will make up the remainder of the nine-day camp. Those who successfully make one of the two Canadian teams will compete in a three-game mini series with the Americans from the 16th to 19th of August.

Representing Manitoba for the National Development Team are goaltenders Kristen Campbell (Chater) and Corinne Schroder (Elm Creek), defenceman Kati Tabin (Winnipeg) and forwards Ashton Bell (Deloraine) and Ryleigh Houston (Winnipeg).

The Under-18 camp is currently featuring Manitoban netminders Julianna Thomson (Winnipeg and Raygan Kirk (Ste. Anne), defenceman Kennesha Miswaggon (Cross Lake) and forward Olivia Cvar (Gimli).

The National Women’s Development Team will be coached by Ontario’s Nadine Muzerall, while the National Women’s Under-18 Team will receive its coaching from Alberta’s Howie Draper.
