Dexter Kuczek – league MVP of the past season – is Winnipeg’s lone recipient of the scholarship. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound winger collected 37 goals and 92 points for the Blues in 2017-18, pacing the MJHL. He will play the 2018-19 season at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, ON.
Mitch Dyck – a 6-foot-4, 225-pound defender for the Winkler Flyers picked up his second scholarship of the season, after already being named the MJHL’s $1000 RBC Junior A Scholarship winner. Dyck registered eight goals and 44 points for the Flyers in 2017-18. He will attend the University of Manitoba in the fall.
Nolan McGuire – also of Winkler – spent the past four seasons playing for his hometown Flyers, where the 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward put up 56 goals, 103 points and 72 penalty minutes in 181 career MJHL games.
“I’m honoured to be selected for these scholarships,” said Dyck in a press release Wednesday. “My long-term goal is to possibly open a gym or training centre and become an athletic therapist with a team.”
“I’m very honoured to have been selected for this scholarship, and my MJHL experience has been very positive,” added teammate McGuire. “I’ve had great teammates, and of course I’d like to thank the Flyers’ coaching staff for all of their assistance.”
