The Prince George Cougars locked up a large piece of their future, signing The Rink Hockey Academy’s goaltender Tyler Brennan to a standard player agreement, beginning in the 2018-19 hockey season.

Tyler Brennan Signs With Prince George of WHL

Brennan, 14-year-old goaltender currently tipping the scales at 180 pounds and standing a whopping 6-foot-3, has taken the first step to a career in the Western Hockey League. After hearing his name called 21st overall at the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, Brennan has signed on with his drafting team, the Prince George Cougars.

After spending the 2016-17 season with the Winnipeg Monarchs of Winnipeg’s Bantam AAA league, the Winnipeg product joined the RHA Nationals of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League for the 2017-18 hockey season. Dressing in 16 games with both the Monarchs and Nationals, Brennan saw his goals against average drop, and his save percentage rise over the last season.

As the top ranked WHL goaltending draft prospect in 2018, Brennan went 11-3-1 and put up a league-high five shutouts. He recorded a 1.52 GAA in 2017-18, as compared to a 1.91 GAA with the Monarch, while his save percentage last year was an astonishing .947, over 3.5 percent better than his shot blocking percentage in Bantam AAA.

After finishing the 2017-18 WHL season in second last place with a 24-38-10 record and a .403 win percentage, the Cougars will look forward to the upcoming service of Brennan.

In his first taste of WHL pre-season action, Brennan stopped 21-22 shots against the Kamloops Blazers. He then stopped seven of eight shots against the Kelowna Rockets in his most recent split-game start.
