The Waywayseecappo Wolverines have started the 2018-19 Manitoba Junior Hockey League season with a bang. After finishing dead last with an 8-48-4 record last season, things have turned around rather quickly for Wayway.

Drew Anderson Collects MJHL Player of the Week

Beginning the year with two victories in their first two games, the Wolverines have already picked up a quarter of the wins they collected in 2017-18. Leading the way was Portage la Prairie native Drew Anderson. The 20-year-old forward put up two goals and six points in Wayway’s two victories.

Following his hard work and point production, the 5-foot-10, 160-pound winger was named the MJHL Player of the Week for the week ending on Monday, September 24th. Runners up for the weekly award included Dauphin’s Brennan Kitchen and Colton Friesen of Winkler.

Anderson, who exploded for 13 goals ad 41 points in midget AAA with the Central Plains Capitals in 2015-16, has spent the past two years in the MJHL, beginning with his rookie season in Steinbach, before being dealt mid-season to Waywayseecappo, where he finished the year second in team scoring with the Wolverines.

Wayway will look to continue its hot play Thursday night as the Wolverines welcome the 0-1-1 Neepawa Natives to town for a 7:30 P.M. matchup.
