Moose camp runs until Thursday, October 3rd, and will feature on-ice skating sessions, fitness training, practices, and intersquad games. Currently hosting just 14 players, the Moose roster will grow as Manitoba’s parent club, the Winnipeg Jets, make cuts from their training camp roster.
In addition to the four camp attendees on AHL contracts (Justin Woods, Joey Ratelle, Felix Girard and Cam Maclise), the Moose have invited ten others to the skates on a tryout basis. Manitobans Colton Veloso and Ryan White will join the group of invites made up of Alexis D’Aoust, Hunter Fejes, Cody Fowlie, Jack Glover, Tanner Jaillet, Joey Leach, Matt Marcinew and Emile Poirier.
White, 30, is the most significant name on the list, having spent parts of eight seasons playing in the NHL with a handful of different clubs. The Brandon native most recently split the 2017-18 campaign between the AHL’s San Diego Gulls and the Iowa Wild, collecting five goals, 17 points and 109 penalty minutes in the process.
The Jets have also re-assigned four defencemen (Luke Green, Simon Bourque, Jacob Cederholm and Charles-David Beaudoin) to the Moose, along with forwards Tye McGinn and Matt Ustaski. Only McGinn and Ustaski saw NHL action this preseason.
Moose camp runs every day until team formation on the third of October. Manitoba opens the season on the road against the Iowa Wild. The 2018-19 home opener will be held at Bell MTS Place on Friday, October 12th against the Belleville Senators.
