The 2018-19 American Hockey League season has not been too kind to the Manitoba Moose thus far.

Moose Lose Second Straight in Iowa

Following a 4-1 third period collapse to the Iowa Wild on Friday evening, the Moose recollected themselves and geared up for a rematch from Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday afternoon. Nearly things did not go according to plan, as the boys on the Manitoba squad found themselves on the wrong end of a 8-1 landslide loss.

The first period ended with a respected 2-1 Iowa lead, as the Moose received a goal from Kristian Reichel. It was Reichel’s first strike of the season, as C.J. Suess collected Manitoba’s only other goal of the season on Friday night. Dennis Everberg and Cameron Schilling picked up the assists on the Reichel marker.

Although outshooting Manitoba 13-9 in the opening frame, Iowa upped their shot game in the second period. The Wild piled on another 16 shots in the second period of play, finding another three goals, including two strikes by Colton Beck. The Moose registered just seven shots in the middle period, totalling 16 through 40 minutes.

In beginning the third period trailing 5-1, Manitoba Head Coach Pascal Vincent decided to yank starter Eric Comrie and have Ken Appleby play out the final 20 minutes. Unfortunately for Manitoba, it didn’t matter who was in net, as the Wild added another three goals on 13 shots. An excruciating 20 minutes came to a close with the Moose crawling out of the rink as the recipients of a 8-1 loss.

Comrie allowed five goals on 29 shots in 40 minutes of play, while Appleby allowed three goals on 13 shots in relief. Manitoba returns home for its 2018-19 home opener Friday evening at Bell MTS Place. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 P.M. with player introductions occurring at 7:00 P.M.
