Selkirk’s Halvorsen Earns MJHL Player of the Week Honours

The 20-year-old Winnipeg native had himself a very productive week, earning eight points in just four total games played. After going pointless in the Steelers’ opening three games of the season, Halvorsen bounced back with an assist in the fourth game of the year and a hat trick in the following contest. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound forward then collected another three goals and an assist over his next two weekend games.

Halvorsen leads Selkirk’s point scoring race, while is currently five points back of the MJHL league lead. His three power play goals place him in a tie with Portage rookie Tyler van Deynze. Halvorsen beat out Swan Valley’s Matt Osadick and Dauphin’s Carter Sawchuk as MJHL player of the week runners up.

The former Winnipeg Warrior and Winnipeg Wild bantam and midget alumni is currently in his fourth and final junior hockey season with the Steelers. In 162 regular season games with Selkirk, Halvorsen has tallied 62 goals, 128 points and 92 penalty minutes. He has four goals, five points and 10 penalty minutes in 17 postseason contests.

Halvorsen and the Steelers are out of action until the weekend, where they host back-to-back Friday/Saturday contests against the Dauphin Kings and Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Puck drop from the Rec Centre is set for 7:30 P.M. both evenings.
