Fijala, a product of Manitou, collected five points in two games of weekend action. In her Pembina Valley Hawks’ 8-2 landslide victory over the Interlake Lightning, Fijala contributed on half of her team’s goals, scoring once and adding three assists for a four-point night. She also assisted on Pembina Valley’s only goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Eastman the following day.
The third-year grade 11 defenceman is serving in a leadership role within the Hawks’, as she was named one of the team’s alternate captains for the 2018-19 hockey season. Fijala’s success goes further than just the scoresheet, as the team player helped guide the Hawks to a league championship in 2016-17, and a second-place finish in 2017-18.
The 5-foot-8, 160-pound blueliner now has three goals and nine points in six games this season. She had three goals, 16 points and 68 penalty minutes in 2017-18, following a two goal, 10 point first season within the MFMHL.
