Winnipeg Jets Recall Sami Niku

After defenceman Dmitry Kulikov suffered an injury in the first period of Friday evening’s contest against the Colorado Avalanche and was ruled out, the Jets acted quickly, bringing up 2017-18 AHL Defenceman of the Year Niku up from the minor leagues.

NIku dressed in one game for Winnipeg in 2017-18, scoring his first career NHL goal against the Montreal Canadiens, put together 16 goals and 54 points in 76 AHL games last year, and currently has one goal and five points through 12 games with the Moose in 2018-19.

The six-foot, 195-pound Finn was originally drafted by Winnipeg 198th overall in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. The 22-year-old was voted in as an AHL First Team All-Star in 2017-18, while putting up three points in nine playoff games for Manitoba.
