Blake Wheeler Wins NHL’s Second Star of the Week

The 32-year-old put together a strong week of hockey, continuing his active 10-game point streak, highlighted by a five-point effort on Friday night, in which the Jets’ leader picked up four assists and an empty net goal to help Winnipeg to a commanding lead over the visiting Colorado Avalanche.

Wheeler picked up two assists on Sunday evening’s game against New Jersey, upping his point total to one goal and seven points in just two games. Winnipeg played just twice in a span of 12 days leading up to their battle with Colorado Friday. Despite only dressing for two contests, Wheeler collected the NHL’s Second Star of the Week, while also receiving the Player of the Week honour.

The 6-foot-5 winger now has three goals and 23 points in 16 total games played, ranking him fourth in league scoring. His 20 assists are a league high, and will look to beat his record setting year of 68 assists and 91 points.
