Bennett – an 18-year-old product of Winnipeg – had a very productive week for the Steelers, going 3-0-0 in his three games played, while putting up 1.65 goals against average and a .943 save percentage during that timespan.
After beginning the week on Monday with a 6-1 drubbing over Wayway, the second-year MJHL player then edged out Swan Valley 5-4 in overtime Wednesday evening, before picking up a shutout against Neepawa back home in Selkirk on Saturday. Although the week of his ‘stardom’ does not include anything past December 17th, Bennett also collected a 4-3 overtime victory on Tuesday the 18th over the Virden Oil Capitals.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound netminder has stopped 103 of the last 111 shots he has faced, while recording two overtime wins and one shutout. Bennett is currently 11-5-0 in 17 games this season, while sporting a 3.12 goals against average and .911 save percentage in 2018-19.
The Steelers have now won five-straight contests (four of which were won by Bennett) and currently sit comfortably in fourth place, with a number of games in hand on their opposition. Selkirk hosts the OCN Blizzard at the Rec Centre Thursday evening. Puck drop is set for 7:30 P.M. central.
