With the help of thousands of fans across the province, True North Sports and Entertainment launched its Winnipeg Jets Food Drive on January 8th, where the team began collecting non-perishable food items upon entrance to Bell MTS Place. This effort has continued at each of the three Jets’ home games since (Jan. 11th, 13th, 15th).
For those unable to bring a ‘tin for the bin’ to any of the four previous games, Winnipeg Harvest bins will remain setup at each of the arena’s entrances until February 2nd, giving fans two more opportunities to bring donations (Jan 31st, Feb 2nd). Not only is Winnipeg Harvest accepting non-perishable food items, but the not-for-profit, community-based food distribution centre will also take any cash or cheque in lieu of a donation.
The Jets’ home contest against Anaheim on Saturday, February 2nd will be Winnipeg Harvest’s final push, as all fans are encouraged to donate cash upon entrance or at the various stations setup around the concourse. A $5 cash donation serves as the equivalent of roughly 15 pounds of food for the needy.
For those not attending any games before February 2nd, Skip The Dishes is offering a promotion in which the Winnipeg-based food delivery organization will donate $2 to the Winnipeg Jets Food Drive from every order that uses the code ‘FEEDINGWPG’ up until February 2nd.
The Winnipeg Jets Wives and Girlfriends have also helped contribute to Winnipeg Harvest’s First Steps program with a $13,189.29 donation to the program that supplies emergency baby formula to those in need. Emily Byfuglien and Sam Wheeler presented the cheque to Winnipeg Harvest Tuesday morning from the proceeds raised selling autographed Christmas ornaments on December 7th.
