This past weekend was a very special one for the Lambos family of Winnipeg.

Johnny Takes First Two Rounds of Lambos Bros Showdown

On Thursday the Kootenay Ice recalled second overall selection in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft Carson Lambos from The Rink Hockey Academy. After earlier recalling Lambos for a three-game stint, the Ice sent the 16-year-old back to the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, where the defenceman put up nine goals and 21 points in 15 games for RHA.

With Kootenay travelling to Brandon for a two-game tilt with the Wheat Kings, the Winnipeg product was recalled in time for back-to-back weekend contests against his older brother Johnny on the Wheaties. The two squared off for the first time in the WHL, with the older brother walking away victorious in both games.

The Wheat Kings produced 12 goals over the course of the two games, beating Kootenay 5-4 in overtime on Friday, before exploding for seven goals in a two-goal victory Saturday evening at Westoba Place. On Friday, the younger Lambos finished the night a +1 with one shot on goal, while his older brother was a -1.

On Saturday, however, Carson Lambos scored the first goal of his junior career on his only shot of the game. The goal came on the power play with just over a minute remaining in the first period. It wasn’t enough though, as Brandon answered back, again and again, taking the victory from Kootenay, 7-5.

Lambos and the Ice have a week to prepare for their battle against the league-best Prince Albert Raiders next Saturday, before travelling to Calgary for a road test against the Hitmen. The Wheat Kings take on the Regina Pats in a home-and-home on Friday and Saturday, with the Wheaties travelling to Regina for the first matchup and hosting the Pats on Saturday.
