With the New York Islanders away from action during the NHL All-Star Weekend, the players and coaches not participating in the event are given some time away from the team. Head Coach Barry Trotz has decided to spend his break back in his hometown of Dauphin.
With the Dauphin Kings hosting their annual Ukrainian Night on Saturday, the team reached out to Trotz, who gladly accepted the invitation to attend the game and provide the ceremonial puck drop prior to the game’s opening face-off.
Trotz – who won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals last season – brought the Cup back to Dauphin late in the summer during his allotted 24 hours with the prize. He turned his meet-and-greet into a fundraiser, in which he generated $150K, including $25K to the Kings.
Saturday’s Kings game against the Portage Terriers from Credit Union Place is set to begin at 7:30 P.M. central. Ukrainian Night events will begin two hours before puck drop, and run throughout the night, highlighted by the Kulbasa Toss and recliner races during the game’s intermissions.
