Defenceman Tristen Cross of Virden put together an effective week for the Oil Capitals, registering three goals and six points in just three games for his hometown’s red-hot junior team. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound blueliner began the week with an assist in Virden’s shutout victory over Steinbach Wednesday.
The former Southwest Cougar then picked things up where he left off on Friday, collecting his team’s first two goals in a 3-2 overtime thriller in Neepawa. The following day at home, the steady defenceman put up a three-point performance in the Oil Capitals’ second-straight victory over the Natives.
Cross is currently fifth in team scoring, and sitting comfortably in first in points by defencemen on the squad. His 11 goals and 30 points in 47 games place him on a 0.64 point-per-game rate over halfway through the 2018-19 season. The fourth-year player will look to best his nine-goal, 38-point season from 2017-18.
