Joel Hofer Signs NHL Deal with St. Louis

The 2018 fourth round selection of the St. Louis Blues has signed a three-year, entry-level contract in the NHL. The 18-year-old left Manitoba’s capital to attend the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in Kelowna, BC., before beginning his junior hockey career with the Western Hockey League’s Swift Current Broncos.

Now playing with fellow Winnipegger Cody Glass and the Portland Winterhawks, Hofer’s numbers have improved, posting a 3.18 goals against average and a .911 save percentage in 18 games for the Hawks to finish the regular season.

Portland is currently down one-game-to-zero in their first round WHL Playoff matchup with fellow United States Division rival Spokane. The Winterhawks fell 5-2 on Friday in Washington, with Hofer making just 17 saves on 22 Chiefs’ shots. The two teams go at it again Saturday night back at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
