The longtime Head Coach and General Manager of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Terriers saw his team finish the regular season atop the standings with four wins and six points more than the next-best team. In the MJHL Playoffs, Portage has played seven games, and has yet to lose a single contest.
Leading the way offensively for the Terriers are veterans Chase Brakel, Sam Huston and Scott Mickoski. The latter of which just received recognition from the league as the MJHL’s Player of the Week. Although only skating in two games this past week, the honour was given as a product of the 20-year-old’s work for Portage all postseason.
In five games, the fourth-year MJHL veteran is averaging 1.60 points-per-game – tops in the league. The Winnipeg product also has two goals, eight points and four penalty minutes during that span. Three of Mickoski’s points came on the power play, while the other goal and two assists were collected at even strength.
After dismantling the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in four-straight games of the opening round of the MJHL Playoffs, Portage has jumped ahead 3-0 in its second round matchup with the fifth-place Virden Oil Capitals. Action between the two teams resumes on Thursday in Virden.
