Winnipeg Blues Sale Officially Approved by MJHL

On Saturday, the MJHL Board of Governors met to discuss the potential sale of the Winnipeg Blues from David Morris and Tom Kleyson to the business also responsible for bringing the Western Hockey League back to Winnipeg. 50 Below Sports + Entertainment Chairman Greg Fettes, President and Governor Matt Cockell and Alternate Governor Ryan Cyr will hold the keys to the only remaining Winnipeg-based MJHL team.

This approval by the MJHL Board of Governors will allow the two parties to now fully negotiate all of the specifics in the ongoing deal. An official transaction is expected to be announced soon. With the Blues now belonging to 50 Below Sports + Entertainment, the Junior ‘A’ team will now practice and play out of The Rink Training Centre at 57 South Landing Drive in Oak Bluff.

The eventual goal will be to have both the Winnipeg ICE and now the Winnipeg Blues playing out of the new 4,000-seat facility at South Landing where construction has already begun. The Rink will also continue to offer its professional training and development of hockey players within the Rink Hockey Academy, Rink Player Development and Testify Performance, while turning its attention to the Winnipeg ICE and now the Winnipeg Blues.
