The 14-year-old Thompson product agreed to a standard WHL player agreement, following one season of bantam prep play for The RINK Hockey Academy. After being drafted 51st overall in the third round of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, Anderson and the Rebels wasted little time making things official.
Also drafted in the fifth round, 46th overall by the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s OCN Blizzard in last week’s MJHL Draft, the 5-foot-10, 155-pound forward skated in 29 regular season games for RHA in 2018-19, recording nearly a point-per-game. He finished the full 55-game season by leading RHA with 32 goals, while adding 18 assists for an even 50 points. Anderson added 96 minutes in penalties to boot.
The Rebels continue to add to their breadth of Manitobans, as the team that finished the 2018-19 WHL regular season 33-29-6 in the second wild card spot in the East will look to improve upon their finish in the coming seasons. Red Deer lost in four-straight games to the regular season and playoff league champion Prince Albert Raiders.
This news came just one day before RHA alumni Colton Friesen was selected in the North American Hockey League Draft by the Aberdeen Wings and days before the Winkler Flyers signed midget prep student athlete Kyle Lamoureux.
