Smashfest VIII – a charity ping pong tournament held annually by former NHL player Dominic Moore – is entering its eighth running. Hosted by the 12-year NHL pro, the event will once again be held at Steam Whistle Brewing Company at 255 Bremner Blvd on Thursday, July 25th. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and tickets are still available to purchase beginning at $250.
Scheifele, 26, will join headliners Jeff Skinner, Alex Kerfoot and Anthony Cirelli amongst the roughly 100 current and former NHL players to participate in an evening of skill-testing table tennis fun. Scheifele – who had 38 goals and 84 points in 82 games for the Winnipeg Jets in 2018-19 – will look to dethrone the current champion, Patrick Eaves.
Eaves has won the last four Smashfest tournaments, helping Dominic Moore and Co. fundraise nearly $1 million dollars since the tournament’s conception in 2012. In 2018 alone, $200K was raised during the tournament evening, to go alongside the already $665K total prior to the event.
The event begins with a doubles Pan-Am styled tournament, before a singles tournament takes over the remainder of the evening. Participants include a variety of NHL stars from nearly every NHL team. Funds raised at Smashfest will go towards research in rare forms of cancer and concussion recovery/rehabilitation.
