Swan River’s Langan Signs With Sharks’ Farm Club

Late Monday evening it was announced that the 20-year-old forward had signed a one-year contract with the American Hockey League’s San Jose Barracuda for the upcoming 2019-20 AHL season. Per the Sharks’ farm team’s club policy, financial terms of the deal were not announced.

Langan – the Western Hockey League’s reigning goal-scoring leader – spent the past season with the Moose Jaw Warriors, alongside fellow Manitobans Jett Woo, Josh Brook, Daemon Hunt and Jesse Mistelbacher, where he racked up a league-leading 53 goals, while finishing second in assists (60) and points (113) to Joachim Blichfield, who ended the year with 114 points in one more game played than Langan.

The six-foot, 205-pound forward played his AAA hockey with the Parkland Rangers, before dressing in 91 games with his local Swan Valley Stampeders between 2014-15. After putting up 23 goals and 63 points, the team that drafted him 183rd overall in 2013, called Langan up for the remainder of the 2015-16 season. With the Moose Jaw Warriors, the reigning WHL First Team All-Star saw his game grow.

Each season he provided a steady improvement, going from three goals and 12 points in his 38-game test run in 2015-16, to six goals and 17 points in 2016-17. Two seasons ago Langan’s 16 goals and 42 points were sixth in team scoring. The Swan Valley native blew up the stat sheets the following year, exploding for a league-best 53 goals and trailing just Blichfield for the league lead with 113 points in 67 games.

Langan is expected to suit up alongside Blichfield in 2019-20 with the San Jose Barracuda, who drafted the Dane 210th overall in 2016. Following a season that saw the Barracuda go 39-22-7, good for 85 points a second place finish in the Pacific Division, San Jose faltered in the Calder Cup Playoffs, losing in four game to the San Diego Gulls.
