Moose camp runs through the AHL preseason, (September 27th) and will feature on-ice skating sessions, fitness training, practices, and intersquad games. Currently hosting roughly 18 players, the Moose roster will grow as Manitoba’s parent club, the Winnipeg Jets, make cuts from their training camp roster.
Last season, the Moose invited Justin Woods, Joey Ratelle, Felix Girard, Cam Maclise, Manitobans Colton Veloso and Ryan White, as well as Alexis D’Aoust, Hunter Fejes, Cody Fowlie, Jack Glover, Tanner Jaillet, Joey Leach, Matt Marcinew and Emile Poirier to camp. Many of the invitees earned spots, while a handful of those names are still with the Moose in 2019-20.
White, 31, is the most significant name on the list, having spent parts of eight seasons playing in the NHL with a handful of different clubs. Last year with the Moose, the former third round selection (66th overall in 2006, Montreal) suffered a concussion mid-season, limiting his games played to 27 on the year. Although missing three-and-a-half months to injury, the Brandon native still managed to pick up five goals, seven points and 57 penalty minutes in the process.
Moose camp begins in mid-September through the preseason until team formation on the fourth of October. Manitoba opens the season on the road against the San Antonio Rampage. The 2019-20 home opener will be held at Bell MTS Place on Friday, October 11th against the Toronto Marlies.
