Uryga, 21, spent most of the 2018-19 season in Swan River, suiting up for the Stampeders in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, following a move from the AJHL’s Olds Grizzlys. The well-travelled junior player has officially committed to spending the upcoming season in Toronto with the York University Lions of U-Sports, joining fellow Manitoban and MJHL grad Mark Wilson.
The former Polonia Bytom Team Poland U-20 forward collected 15 goals, 38 points and 54 penalty minutes in 47 regular season games split between the Stampeders and Grizzlys in 2018-19, before going on to produce at a point-per-game rate with six goals and 17 points in 17 MJHL playoff games this past spring.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound, North Vancouver, BC. product will join a Lions team looking to improve upon its 13-21-0 record from 2018-19, that saw York swept in two games to the Brock Badgers in mid-February postseason action. York University will kick things off with four preseason contests beginning Friday, September 13th, before the season opener against the Toronto Varsity Blues at 6:00 PM central on Saturday, October 5.
