Oakbank Product McColm Signs With Prince George

This past weekend, the 17-year-old defenceman signed a standard player agreement with the Western Hockey League’s Cougars. Originally drafted by the Regina Pats 176th overall in the eighth round of the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft, McColm was dealt to Prince George at the 2018 WHL Trade Deadline, as a part of the return for Jesse Gabrielle.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Oakbank product spent the past four seasons skating for the Eastman Selects of the AAA bantam, city midget and midget hockey leagues, racking up 14 goals, 66 points and 148 penalty minutes in 147 combined regular season contests with the Selects. McColm also dressed in one game with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Waywayseecappo Wolverines following the completion of his midget AAA season.

The young defender suited up for the Cougars in two of its first three preseason contests – both blowout losses – in which he took one shot, collected one minor penalty and registered a -4 plus/minus rating. McColm will battle for one of the final open positions on Prince George’s third pairing for the 2019-20 WHL season.
