As a Manitoban, there will be 22 Western Hockey League players of importance to keep an eye on as NHL training camps open up across the league this weekend. 16 players born within Manitoba will be trying out with various NHL clubs, while six players who have/will be spending time with Manitoba’s WHL teams will also be skating in NHL arenas.
105 total WHL players will be attending NHL training camps, with 58 having been selected in this past June’s 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The 16 players from the WHL represent 13 different Western League teams and will be trying out for 15 different NHL clubs (two players attending Colorado Avalanche camp). Included on this list are six Winnipeggers, one player from as far north as The Pas and another from southern Manitoba’s Souris.
Other young, exciting Manitobans to look out for include Pimicikamak’s Brady Keeper in Florida, Nick Henry in Colorado, Cody Glass and Zach Whitecloud in Vegas, as well as Morgan Geekie and Stelio Mattheos in Carolina.
