The Rapid City Rush have signed three players with connections to Brandon, Manitoba.

Coulter, Elmes, Quenneville Sign in ECHL

It was recently announced that former Brandon Wheat Kings forwards Tyler Coulter and Peter Quenneville would join Josh Elmes in Rapid City, to play for the ECHL’s Rush in 2019-20. Both Coulter and Elmes grew up playing minor hockey in Brandon, while Quenneville called Brandon his home from 2013-15, serving as the Wheat Kings’ captain during the 2014-15 season.

Elmes, 26, has spent the past two seasons in the ECHL with the Rush, and has re-signed for his third year in Rapid City. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenceman has played in 118 career ECHL games, scoring six times, while adding 37 points and 150 penalty minutes. Following his four-year career with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s OCN Blizzard, Elmes has found work in the USHL, U-Sports, the NCHL as well as the SPHL, before joining Rapid City.

Coulter, 23, played out the 2018-19 season overseas in Sweden, suiting up in 20 games for Tyringe, where he put up 12 goals, 24 points and 25 penalty minutes, following a season split between the Jacksonville Icemen of the ECHL and U-Sports’ University of Calgary Dinos. In four years of WHL play for the Wheat Kings, Coulter registered 89 goals, 206 points and 232 penalty minutes in 306 career games.

Quenneville, 25, grew up in Alberta, playing two seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, before moving to Dubuque of the North America Hockey League. He had a brief stint with Quinnipiac of the NCAA, before suiting up for 143 WHL games with the Wheat Kings. Quenneville collected 59 goals, 150 points and 38 penalty minutes during his time in Brandon.

Interestingly enough, Elmes, Coulter and Quenneville will receive coaching from former Wheat King Daniel Tetrault (La Broquerie, MB.) who serves as head coach in Rapid City.
