The Red Deer Rebels and Seattle Thunderbirds have come together on an early-season, two-player deal.

Winnipeg’s Gottfried Dealt to Seattle

The trade sees Winnipegger Ryan Gottfried shipped to Seattle, in exchange for defenceman Noah Barlage and a conditional seventh round selection in the 2022 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. Gottfried recently been re-assigned to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Neepawa Natives.

Gottfried – a 6-foot-4, 210-pound blueliner – spent the past season with the Rebels, skating in 46 games, while collecting one goal, eight points and 18 penalty minutes, before suiting up in four postseason contests. The former Winnipeg Hawks Bantam AAA star was selected 101st overall in the sixth round of the 2016 draft.

“Ryan is a big, strong defenseman who will compete for a spot while also adding to our depth on the back end,” said Thunderbirds GM Bil La Forge in a team-issued press release.

Having played just a league-low three games so far in 2019-20 (1-2-0), Seattle returns to action this weekend with back-to-back contests with the Spokane Chiefs and Victoria Royals. Puck drop is set for 9:00 PM central in Spokane Friday, while Saturday’s game will get underway by 8:00 PM in Seattle.
