U-16 WHL Cup Roster Announced

The 22-man roster for the upcoming 2019 U-16 WHL Cup has been announced.

Headlining the list of 11 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders born in 2004 is Strathclair’s Conor Geekie, Thompson’s Carter Anderson, Winnipeg’s Jesiah Bennett and Dominion City’s Denton Mateychuk. Netminders selected for the team include Matthew Kieper of Winnipeg and Reid Dyck of Winkler.

Winnipeg is home to seven of the successful tryout candidates, while Russell boasts two players on the team (Tyson Zimmer and Ryder Thompson). Of the 22 players on the squad, three currently play within the Rink Hockey Academy, while 15 players belong to the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League. 18 of the 22 players were selected in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft this past May.

Team Manitoba U-16 will travel to the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary, AB. for the 2019 WHL Cup which will run for one week, beginning on Sunday, October 20th through the 27th. Puck drop on the team’s first game is set for Wednesday, October 23rd, where Manitoba will take on competition from British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
