The Winnipeg Jets made three transactions Thursday prior to their contest with the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs. Defenceman Nathan Beaulieu has been placed on the Jets’ injured reserve, while fellow defender Sami Niku has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose. The Jets also sent Joona Luoto down to the Moose.
Niku, 23, has had a rough start to the 2019-20 season, suffering a number of injuries between September and December. The versatile defenceman has three goals and 14 points in 18 games for Manitoba during his time in the AHL.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Finn will not dress for Winnipeg Thursday, as Carl Dahlstrom will make his return to the Jets’ lineup following a long stint serving as Winnipeg’s seventh defender in the press box. Dahlstrom – who was acquired via Waivers on October 1 – saw regular action in October, before playing once in November and then again on December 3.
Beaulieu suffered a lower-body injury on Tuesday in Colorado as a result of a blocked shot. This will be Beaulieu’s third stint on the IR this season, as the blueliner missed the first 15 games of the season, before landing back on the injured reserve for a four-game stint in late-November. Beaulieu will be out roughly four weeks.
