Blues Captain Foreman Headlines Stars of the Week

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League has named its Stars of the Week for the 19th week of the 2019-20 season. Leading the way is Winnipeg Blues forward Brayden Foreman, followed closely by Steinbach Pistons forward Kyle Bettens and Portage Terriers goaltender Noah Giesbrecht.

Foreman, 18, skated in four games for the Blues during the week spanning from January 27 to February 2. In those four contests, the four-year Winnipeg Monarch put up two goals and seven assists for nine points, two minutes in penalties and one power play goal.

After putting up three assists combined in his first two games against Steinbach and Selkirk on Tuesday and Friday, respectively, Foreman blew up Saturday evening, scoring once, while adding four assists in a 6-2 thrashing of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at the RINK Training Centre.

The 5-foot-8, 140-pound Winnipeg product added another goal and two assists the following night against Swan Valley. Foreman currently sits 12th in league scoring with 15 goals and 49 points, operating at a 1.26 point-per-game rate.

Bettens, a fellow 18-year-old of Winnipeg, collected three goals and six points in three games for the the Pistons this past week. Steinbach’s second-leading point scorer collected two goals and two assists in his first contest of the week against Winnipeg, before adding another goal and an assist in a two-game series with OCN on the weekend.

Noah Giesbrecht, 20, put together a near unstoppable week for Portage, earning two wins and one shutout in three starts for the Terriers. Following a tight 3-1 loss in which he gave up two goals on 30 shots, Giesbrecht bounced back with a 3-0 shutout over Virden, turning aside all 25 shots he faced on Wednesday. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound backstop then allowed just one goal on 22 Oil Caps shots the following day in a 6-1 victory in Virden.
