The Melville Millionaires have announced the signing of 2003-born forward Chase Bertholet for the 2020-21 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season. Drafted by the Millionaires in the sixth round (63rd overall) of the 2018 SJHL Bantam Draft, Bertholet spent the past two seasons suiting up for the Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan Male AAA U-18 Hockey League, where he produced at roughly a point-per-game rate on the right wing.
His first year of midget in 2018-19, saw the 5-foot-11, 160-pound speedster collect 13 goals, 44 points and 32 penalty minutes in 43 regular season games, before he scored 15 times and added 20 assists for 35 points and 38 penalty minutes in 39 games in 2019-20. Bertholet has also put up a goal, four points and six penalty minutes in eight postseason contests with Prince Albert.
After hearing his name called 94th overall by the Red Deer Rebels in the fifth round of the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, Bertholet was dealt to the then Kootenay ICE on November 30, 2018, as part of the return in a major deal involving Oakbank’s Brett Davis. The ICE then locked him down with a standard WHL contract three months later on February 19 of 2019.
Melville finished the 2019-20 COVID-19 shortened season short of the playoffs with a rough 16-36-6 record. The team put up just 38 points and had a -80 goal differential, finishing last in the Viterra Division and dead last in the league. Bertholet is now listed as one of two 2003-born products on the Millionaires’ preliminary 2020-21 season roster. He is currently participating in the team’s preseason training camp.
