On Monday evening, the National Hockey League will announce its Vezina Trophy winner for the 2019-20 hockey season. After announcing the three finalists back on July 17, the three candidates for the league’s top netminder award have been forced to wait it out two full months to see which player was voted in as the best amongst his peers.
In the running to be “the goaltender adjudged to be the best at his position” is the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Andrei Vasilevskiy, the Boston Bruins’ Tuukka Rask and Winnipeg’s own Connor Hellebuyck. With both Rask and Hellebuyck bumped from the postseason, Vasilevskiy is the only netminder left in the running, currently taking on the Dallas Stars in the Stanley Cup Final with his Bolts teammates.
After the NHL Awards – originally scheduled for June 18 in Las Vegas – were postponed on March 25, the league determined it would slowly roll out finalist announcements in July, before naming the individual award winners throughout the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final. The Vezina Trophy winner will be announced at 5:30 PM central time on Monday.
