This past week, former Interlake Lightning forward Ally Rakowski officially committed to attend Midland University this fall and suit up for the Division I Warriors. Playing out of the American College Hockey Association, Midland is located Fremont, Nebraska, where the 5-foot-6, 145-pound speedster is set to travel for the 2020-21 season.
The 18-year-old forward spent the past two seasons within the Manitoba Female U-18 AAA Hockey League with Interlake, where she skated in 57 games, putting up 21 goals, 28 points and 50 total penalty minutes as a member of the Lightning U-18 squad. Coming over to the Lightning following time with both the AA Winnipeg Saints and the St. Mary’s Academy Flames, Rakowski served in a leadership role, while leading the team in points with 23 in 33 contests.
Now joining head coach Jason White and the Warriors in Nebraska, Rakowski’s speed and offensive flair are attributes the bench boss is really looking forward to. “Her speed and hockey sense combined with her offensive creativity will make her one of the top freshman in the ACHA Women’s Division 1 next season,” White said.
The Warriors went 16-15-1 in 2019-20, putting up a +29 goal differential, while placing fourth in the WMCHL Division of the women’s ACHA. Midland finished just four points behind nearby Minot State University. Interlake, finished the 2019-20 season in last place, before being swept in three games in their quarterfinal playoff matchup with the Winnipeg Avros.
