The three stars who drove the Transcona Railer Express to the top on the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League’s early-season standings have been rightfully honored by the league.
Connor Grunsten, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound 20-year-old who was acquired in a trade with the Raiders Junior Hockey Club last season has been named the MMJHL’s Player of the Month for October; Dylan Arnold, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound 19-year-old brick wall between the pipes has been named MMJHL Goalie of the Month; and Evan Chudley, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound 17-year-old forward out of College Pierre-Elliott Trudeau was named MMJHL Rookie of the Month.
Grunsten had five goals and 14 points in just five games as the Railer Express went undefeated in its opening five games of the season.
Arnold went 3-0-0 with 102 saves and only six goals against to open the campaign. He has a goals-against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .941.
And Chudley had six goals and eight points in the first five games of the 2020-21 season.
Meanwhile, Caelan Russel of the Pembina Valley Twisters was named defenseman of the month after scoring two goals and dishing out seven assists in four games. The 2018-19 champion Twisters opened the season with a record of 3-1-0.
