The Mighty Ducks are back, baby! Although featuring nearly an entirely overhauled cast and a new storyline, the 90s hockey-themed classic is set to make a return to the limelight in the coming months.
On Thursday, Disney announced that ‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers’ is currently in development. Although without a release date, the franchise will see Emilio Estevez return as ‘Coach Gordon Bombay’, while Gilmore Girls actress Lauren Graham enters the motion picture as a hockey mom.

“Once a Duck, always a Duck!” Estevez said at the unveiling. “And after 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in The Mighty Ducks franchise. Likewise, I am thrilled to return to my old stomping grounds with my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creator of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform, Disney+.”
According to Disney, Graham serves the role of a mother of a player cut from the now-powerful Mighty Ducks squad of present day Minnesota. She tracks down former Ducks head coach Bombay and helps convince him to once again pick up coaching and take over a squad of unfit and unruly young hockey players.
The 10-episode series is set for launch sometime in 2021. It will be available to watch on Disney Plus.
