Jets Release Training Camp Roster, Announce Three PTOs

On Friday, the Winnipeg Jets announced the roster for the 2020-21 running of training camp to be held out of Bell MTS Iceplex from Monday, January 4 to Wednesday, January 13. With two groups of players being announced and skating at 7:30 and 11:00 AM daily (except Saturday, January 9, the team has put together its list of players serving as participants.

On the official training camp roster are 19 forwards, 15 defencemen, five goaltenders and three injured players. Included in the list are three players who have been offered professional tryouts (PTOs) and will vie for contracts through their respective performances.

Players on PTOs with the Jets are two-time Stanley Cup Champion Trevor Lewis (formerly of the Los Angeles Kings), Jimmy Oligny (formerly of the Manitoba Moose) and Altona’s own Cole Kehler (formerly of the Ontario Reign).

Bryan Little, David Gustafsson and Marko Dano are listed as the three players under the ‘injured’ category. Relieving for Winnipeg is the fact that Finnish World Junior Team defenceman Ville Heinola practiced with his teammates on Friday, after he left Thursday’s WJHC preliminary round game against Canada with a hand injury after blocking a Connor McMichael wrist shot.

Despite anything less than Bronze or Gold Medal Game appearance, neither Canada’s Cole Perfetti, nor Finland’s Heinola would make it back to Jets camp in time to complete quarantine and begin skating with the team. Neither player found his name on the roster. Both are interesting situations for Winnipeg, however, as potential AHL play may become a possibility for Perfetti, should the CHL push back the beginning of its 2020-21 season any longer than already indicated.
