Westman’s Scraba Commits to the University of Regina

This past week, Souris product Shaylee Scraba officially committed to the University of Regina for the 2021-22 season, where she will study kinesiology and continue to pursue her sporting career with the Cougars female hockey team.

The 17-year-old is currently in her Grade 12 season with the Westman Wildcats of the Manitoba Female AAA Hockey League, where she was able to suit up for five October contests prior to the province-wide COVID-19 shutdown. In helping her team to a 3-2 record, Scraba scored a goal and three points, to go alongside six penalty minutes and a +5 rating.

In 36 league games last season, the 5-foot-9, 150-pound forward produced 14 goals, 24 points and 34 penalty minutes after earning 14 goals, 26 points and 27 penalty minutes the year prior. Through three-and-a-half season of MFHL play, Scraba has 51 goals, 98 points and 77 total penalty minutes to her name.

Suiting up for Team Manitoba at both the U-16 and U-18 level, Scraba actually served in a leadership role with the hand-picked team in 2018. She won both the hardest working and most sportsmanlike player awards, while also capturing the MFHL championship in 2019. The soon-to-be 18-year-old will now have the opportunity to fulfil her dream of suiting up within the Canada West Conference of U-Sports with the University of Regina.

“We wants to congratulate Shaylee on her outstanding accomplishments to date during her U18 “AAA” career,” the MFHL wrote in a statement. “We wish her all the best with her future academic and hockey endeavours while at the University of Regina where she plans to pursue a Kinesiology Degree.”
