Cole Perfetti Joins Jets, Moose Add Eight to Training Camp Roster

On Thursday, Winnipeg Jets first round selection of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft Cole Perfetti made his debut on the ice with the main Jets group. He participated in what appeared to be a somewhat optional practice, joining Dominic Toninato as first time full-participants.

With Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and Paul Stastny not in attendance, the line did not resemble much of what the team looked like on Tuesday evening during the Jets’ 6-4 come-from-behind victory over the visiting Edmonton Oilers. However, with Perfetti being added to the mix from the Manitoba Moose to the Jets’ Taxi Squad, some of the line combinations were hit and miss. Perfetti skated alongside Kyle Connor and Trevor Lewis.

“I got the call yesterday from Mr. Cheveldayoff. It was pretty cool and I wasn’t expecting that. I was just sitting there, watching TV, Facetiming my parents,” Perfetti said post-skate. “It’s pretty cool. Going from junior hockey, it’s a big difference. I was just trying to take it all in from the moment I stepped on the ice.”

“That was my first skate in the NHL. I’ll never forget that,” the 19-year-old added. “Basically what I’m trying to do is be a sponge. Just soak it all in. This is something that in a normal year, I most likely wouldn’t be able to experience.”

Also on Thursday, the Moose announced the addition of eight players to the team’s training camp roster, following the strict COVID-19 protocol and quarantine regulations put in place by the AHL.

Joining Moose camp are forwards C.J. Suess, Westin Michaud, Biagio Lerario, Tyler Graovac, Cole Maier and Bobby Lynch. Two defencemen, Ashton Sautner and Hayden Shaw have also been added to the roster. As it currently stands, Manitoba’s roster now boasts two goaltenders, seven defencemen and 13 forwards.
