Moose Trade for Winnipegger King, Sign Draft Pick Vallati

The Manitoba Moose have remained busy this past week, adding depth players to a lineup that currently has the team situated second in the North Division with a record of 11-11-2 through 24 games.

The club has acquired Winnipeg product Noah King from the Stockton Heat in a player loan deal for the remainder of the 2020-21 AHL season. The 21-year-old has skated in just one contest for the Heat this year, registering a +1 rating with a single shot on net back on March 31.

The former Winnipeg Wild U-18 AAA star suited up for one season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for the Winnipeg Blues, before playing three seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Swift Current Broncos and Spokane Chiefs. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound defenceman owned the WHL’s best plus/minus in 2019-20, finishing the year a +60.

The Moose have also brought back another familiar face for the d-corps in Giovanni Vallati. Signing the former Winnipeg Jets fifth round pick (2018, 153rd overall) to an AHL amateur tryout, Manitoba will look to also get the 6-foot-2, 190-pound blueliner into the action in the upcoming weeks.

Also 21, Vallati put up 20 goals and 122 total points in 253 career games with the Kitchener Rangers and Oshawa Generals the Ontario Hockey League. Last playing in the 2019-20 season, the Ottawa, ON. native collected 27 points in 61 games.

After a slight break in the action, Manitoba begins a five-game series with King’s former team, the Heat, on Thursday evening. The games will be No. 12 through 17 of an AHL-record 17-game homestand that saw the Moose begin action from Bell MTS Iceplex back on March 8. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 PM central on Thursday. The game can be viewed live on AHL TV, while also available on CJOB 680.
