Last week, the Winnipeg ICE finished their abbreviated 2020-21 Western Hockey League season out of the Regina Hub’s Brandt Centre. But early this week the league announced its Rookie of the Month for April: Conor Geekie.
Collecting six goals and 15 points in just 14 games this past month, the Strathclair product helped his Winnipeg ICE to a 12-1-1 record to close out the 24-game regular season. Finishing second behind only provincial rival Brandon Wheat Kings, the ICE went 18-5-1 on the year with a very strong month of April.
Geekie, who celebrates his 17th birthday on Wednesday was a plus-9 while picking up six multi-point games during the month. His nine goals and 23 total points on the season ranked him fourth in team scoring behind league-leader Peyton Krebs, Connor McClennon and Owen Pederson. In doing so, the ICE named Geekie the team’s Rookie of the Year for 2020-21.
