Strathclair’s Conor Geekie Named WHL’s Rookie of the Month

Last week, the Winnipeg ICE finished their abbreviated 2020-21 Western Hockey League season out of the Regina Hub’s Brandt Centre. But early this week the league announced its Rookie of the Month for April: Conor Geekie.

Collecting six goals and 15 points in just 14 games this past month, the Strathclair product helped his Winnipeg ICE to a 12-1-1 record to close out the 24-game regular season. Finishing second behind only provincial rival Brandon Wheat Kings, the ICE went 18-5-1 on the year with a very strong month of April.

Geekie, who celebrates his 17th birthday on Wednesday was a plus-9 while picking up six multi-point games during the month. His nine goals and 23 total points on the season ranked him fourth in team scoring behind league-leader Peyton Krebs, Connor McClennon and Owen Pederson. In doing so, the ICE named Geekie the team’s Rookie of the Year for 2020-21.

Chosen second overall in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound centreman recorded points in nine games during April, putting up two points on six occasions. Geekie also had 22 shots on goal, while also recording 12 minutes in penalties during April.
